– Gilded reds with elegant, balanced composition
Radiant and refined, this exceptional board of petrified Araucarioxylon reveals a compelling dialogue between warmth and depth. Earthy reds, deep browns, sophisticated greys, and darker mineral accents unfold across the surface in a composition that feels both grounded and quietly dramatic. Formed over 220 million years ago, this ancient pine was transformed into stone through a slow and meticulous geological process, preserving the very essence of the living tree within crystalline permanence.
Discovered in 2010 on Jim Gray’s ranch in Arizona, this 23-by-34-inch specimen originates from a long-extinct forest, its cellular structure gradually replaced by silica-rich minerals. Iron oxides and trace elements introduced rich chromatic variations, giving rise to the board’s glowing reds, warm browns, and cooler grey tones. Subtle fossilized grain lines and organic transitions echo the memory of bark, growth rings, and natural movement once present in the living wood.
Light plays an essential role in the perception of this piece. Under soft illumination, the reds appear velvety and warm, while deeper shadows introduce contrast and visual depth. As the light shifts, crystalline details emerge — fine mineral veins, delicate textures, and gentle tonal gradients that invite closer observation.
Versatile in both scale and presence, this board may be displayed as a striking wall-mounted artwork, used as a refined tabletop, or integrated into sophisticated interior décor. Whether placed in a private residence, a professional space, or a curated collection, it stands as a powerful yet elegant expression of nature’s endurance and artistry — a timeless union of earth, stone, and design.
