The fossilized wood specimen was discovered in Paulsell’s Ranch in 2001 before being expertly excavated, cut and polished to reveal its beautiful interior. Collecting high quality petrified wood specimens from Paulsell’s Ranch (like this specimen)is now impossible as the ranch has been incorporated into the Arizonian Petrified Forest National Park in 2011.

A window into the prehistoric era, this 220-million-year-old fossilized Araucarioxylon pine’s organic matter has been replaced by stone. The petrified wood board contains all the classic Arizonian red colors: wine mahoganies, rustic tones and burnt embers. In addition, there are smouldering pinks, Tuscan yellows, smokey blues, graphite blacks and stormy greys that give rise to this rare composition of colors. These colors are abstractly arranged across the petrified wood board as if completed by an artist. Simply breath taking!
