– A rich medley of golden ambers and dark umbers, refined and luminous
Warm and evocative, this circular specimen of petrified Araucarioxylon captures the quiet glow of golden light held within stone. Excavated in 2001 from the Paulsell Ranch in Arizona, this 28-by-37-inch round has undergone more than 220 million years of geological transformation, emerging as a refined and harmonious natural artwork.
Silica- and iron-rich waters slowly permeated the buried wood, replacing its organic fibers with quartz while preserving its internal structure. This process created a velvety palette of molten gold, deep umber, and soft charcoal, subtly balanced by pale beige and grey undertones. Fossilized growth rings and delicate mineral veins remain visible beneath the polished surface, offering a quiet rhythm and sense of movement.
The circular form enhances its natural equilibrium, allowing color and pattern to radiate outward with ease. As light shifts throughout the day, the surface responds gently — golden highlights shimmer, darker tones recede, and fine crystalline details appear and disappear.
Whether mounted on a wall, used as a refined tabletop, or presented as a sculptural accent, this Paulsell Ranch specimen brings depth and sophistication to any interior. It is an elegant testament to nature’s patience — a timeless union of earth, light, and stone.
